visual blog

Due to perception we are able to view things in different ways. We view objects by distinguishing a forground and a back ground. And Professor Edgar Rubin has this famous illuison of two faces in the black back ground and a vase in the white background. I have seen this picture numerous amount of time so I automatically see both the faces and the vase. BUt if i remember correctly when i had first seen this illusion i thought there were only a vase and i saw this picture on the back of the apple jacks cereal box. (: The other illuison on the web site was of the two tables. At first glance it looks like one is longer and narrow while the other one is shorter and widers. But when placed together they are exactly the same size.It was just the way they were set up that made them look differently.
The other picture of the two men one that is close up and the other one that is in a distance was really tricky for me! They look completely differentl but in reality they are the same size! The smiling ladies was scary when you flipped them over because when they were upside down it looks at first glance that both are smiling but really they have messed up on of the faces by lipping the smile and eyes which looks super scary too me...
